| "Hard Times Cafe" Chooses Wurlitzer
May 4, 1998 The Wurlitzer "One More Time" model jukebox will proudly be providing musical entertainment to all customers of the Hard Times Cafe restaurants according to a recent agreement between Wurlitzer and American Chili Management, franchiser of the Hard Times Cafe. Currently, there are eight Hard Times Cafes in operation with another opening in May. The company is planning to open 100 restaurants over the next 3 years. Most of these will be franchised with about 10% to 15% to be company-owned. Hard Times Cafe specializes in casual food and Cincinnati-style, depression era chili. "Wurlitzer is very pleased that Hard Times has decided on our jukebox. I must say that their taste in jukeboxes is equal to their taste in chili. It is the best I've ever had," stated Wurlitzer's Dave Peckels. During the Great Depression, chili parlors offered an inexpensive and nourishing meal for millions of Americans. Throughout the hard times of the 1930's it was said that chili saved more lives than the Red Cross. Hard Times Cafe was founded to carry on the local chili parlor tradition. "We have experimented with a couple of different jukeboxes, and the Wurlitzer "One More Time" model had the look and the features we wanted. Our customers absolutely love the Wurlitzer. It fits perfectly with the theme of our restaurants," raved Richard Garland, V.P. of Operations for American Chili Management Co.
